The Squeaky Wheel

The Squeaky Wheel forums have been updated!

Regular visitors to our website and forums may remember our old forums sat on a page inside our website, right on this very page to be exact. However, the software we use for the discussion forums was different to the software that runs the general website, and while we could get it to sit “inside” our site, it didn’t exactly look very pretty.

For those who never saw it, here’s a screenshot of what the old forums looked like:

We have decided to give the discussion forums their own separate site at www.qsss.com.au/vanilla/.

The Squeaky Wheel forums get “responsive”

By that we don’t mean the forums have a lippy attitude (although we have no problem with forum participants having one!) – “responsive” means the forums should adapt depending on the screen size of the device used (smartphone, tablet or PC). Depending on what device you use you may see a slightly different layout but it should be optimised for readability on your device.

The link to the new discussion forums is www.qsss.com.au/vanilla/ (the link has “vanilla” in it because the forums run on vanilla software)

One very important thing to note is the search bar (arrow #1) and the message underneath it. If you click on the link in the welcome box (arrow #2) you will go back to the QSSS home page.

Registering and logging in to The Squeaky Wheel

If you haven’t already registered with The Squeaky Wheel there will be the following message on the top right hand corner of the page.

Click on the “register” button and you’ll get a dialogue box asking for a email address, username and password. As a security measure to make sure you’re human, not a spammer, you have to enter some text from a picture. You will need to reply to a confirmation email before you can start posting.

If you have any troubles with this process please send a message to forums@qsss.com.au

Don’t forget to customise!

Once you’re setup with a login and password you can customise your account with any picture you like. By default you’ll have a funny-looking cartoon face, but if you go to the admin panel at the very top right of the page you can click on “account options” (see arrow in screenshot below).

Screenshot of the user "account options" panel“Account options” is the little cogwheel icon at the far right, the other icons (from left to right) are notifications, inbox (for private messages) and bookmarks. However, if you click on account options you get the following option below:
