QSSS Training
QSSS value our staff as well as our clients, and as such we believe it is essential that staff are well trained both in specific hands-on tasks but especially in understanding the needs of people who have disabilities...what’s it like for them, what are the things they hold as important, the “golden rules” (the negotiables and non-negotiables). Clients also participate in the training and all of our Trainers have the personal experience of disability (either have a disability themselves or are family members of someone who has a disability).
We provide professional training, from the orientation program through to specialised areas according to the needs of the clients as well as what staff ask for to make them better support workers.
We provide support workers with ongoing opportunities to broaden their skills and experience and this ensures that people in our team are equipped and educated to provide quality supports.
We provide certificates to staff or prospective staff for any training undertaken with us, whether accredited or non-accredited training.

Certificate III in Disability:
This qualification is taken from the community services training package and is placed at level 3 on the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). The training program covers 15 units of competency taken from the training package. There are 10 core units and 5 electives, followed by 30 hours practical work placement. Upon successful completion of all units, a Certificate IV in Disability will be issued.
The training is provided at the AWS Training Rooms at Spring Hill and is available to people who are jobseekers or current workers in the field. This may be able to be offered free under the Government’s PPP Program.
Certificate IV in Disability (flexible work-based - external):
The Certificate IV in Disability Work is a nationally accredited qualification being offered in a flexible mode of delivery for workers in the field. This delivery is for workers who want to complete the course or whose qualifications need updating. For many workers who already have Certificate III in Aged Care or Home and Community Care an opportunity exists to gain a further qualification by completing minimal competencies.
If undertaking this qualification as a new entrant or existing worker trainee, the learner must be in appropriate role. Examples of an “appropriate” role can be support worker, home care assistant etc who is seeking to move into a role that has supervisory or team leader capacity.
The training program covers 15 units of competency taken from the training package. There are 10 core units and 5 electives. Upon successful completion of all units, a Certificate IV in Disability will be issued.
The flexible/work based learning program requires 15 face to face sessions (generally monthly of 6 hour duration) either in the workplace or in the AWS Training Rooms. Each session will cover theory, task demonstration and discussion, with direction to the learner to complete each unit of competency and some aspects of the assessment tasks. Face to face sessions may also include assessment activities.
This model is used to facilitate the completion of the qualification primarily for traineeships where most of the work is completed at home or work and involves our trainer coaching by telephone or email and coordinating the face to face sessions. Under this model, this qualification must be completed within 24 months.
